The Prince Of The Blues

Keith Erving Johnson

As an integral part of my current senior year studies at Delta State University I am actively participating in a 2016 summer internship with DeChamp Records, LLC owned by Mr. Grady Champion, the 2010 International Blues Challenge winner to gain practical experience in the music industry. I also represented the Vicksburg Blues Society in the 2017 International Blues Challenge. As part of my attempting to gain more practical performance experience, I have on two occasions had the privilege of sitting in with the Central Mississippi Blues Society’s Blue Monday event and the Penguin Restaurant during a birthday celebration for Ms. Alice Tisdale, publisher of the Jackson Advocate Newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. On another occasion I was given the opportunity to play as a lead vocalist and guitarist at Underground 119 Blues Lounge in downtown Jackson, Mississippi with Mr. Jesse Robinson, the newly named front man for the B.B. King Blues Band.

As part of my studies at Delta State University I graduated with a bachelors in Entertainment industry Studies, and I am currently working on an MBA in Human Resources. I participated with the Delta State University All-stars Blues Band at Hal & Mal’s in Jackson, Mississippi.  I also play lead guitar with Phillips Chapel Church in Cleveland MS.

In the past I have shared the stage with and performed with national blues recording artists Grady Champion, Jesse Robinson, Zac Harmon, King Edward Antoine, The Band Perry and the at the 2015 Mississippi Grammy Week (Los Angeles, CA).   Concurrently, I am also pursuing a part-time career as a blues music performance artist which I plan to commit to full-time upon graduation to keep the blues alive as a continued tribute to the legacy of my great uncle blues icon, Muddy Waters.
